Old Rust And Weeds
A Time For Change
It is no secret that I love traditional hot rods and old shop trucks. On  these
vehicles paint is optional, primer and rust are acceptable choices for the paint
scheme, and no one cares that your wrecked Impala motor ended up in your parts
truck. That is the way my old truck is put together.
The old truck still runs a straight axle set up on the front end, although it has been
fitted with early 70s Chevelle discs. The heads on the motor are vintage 1966 #462
iron double humps. The 12 bolt in the rear is from a 1967 Chevelle. The list of old
parts is long, but I'm sure you can tell it is the real deal. And I drive it wherever I go  !
Because I drive it on long trips often, I am aware of the wear and tear the road trips
can cause. Over the last couple of years the older parts of the steering and
suspension have really shown signs of fatigue.
I was struggling with how to fix the problems and not lose the look and feel of the
traditional hot rod. Thats when a good friend pointed out that hot rodders have
always upgraded to better parts when they became available...Things like 4 cylinder
motors replaced by the newer flatheads, suspension swaps, better
brakes,frames...etc..etc.. have been going on for decades. I'm thinking...Duhhhhh.
What am i waiting for...Here we go again.....
A solid cab and frame was located..a Mustang 2 style front end was
purchased......and because I am tired of smelling gas in the cab....a little "measurin
and cypherin" was done and a new 1969 Camaro gas tank fits snuggly between the
frame rails out back!
I will leave the outside "Look" virtually untouched, with the exception of some
much needed turn signals.. The door insides will get bear claw latches because
doors flying open just aren't as fun as they once were. I am even gonna have a
speedometer because the last ticket cost more than the speedometer !!
I hope you enjoy the picture history of this cool old truck as much as I have
enjoyed being a part of it.
